Vintage 1951 metal sign advertising “APPROVED CLEAN REST ROOMS” on one side and “CLEAN REST ROOMS” on the reverse side. This was originally used at a local Sunoco gas station that no longer exists. Measures 24″ by 17-1/2″. Its a pretty substantial sign (not flimsy) and weighs almost 6 lbs. The bottom, right corner has small print “M C A 4-51″. That identifies this sign as being produced by the Massillon, Canton, Akron Sign Company in April of 1951. That company used to exist in nearby Massillon, Ohio. All original as found from a local estate with no breaks, repairs, or touch-ups. As the close up photos clearly show there is surface wear including paint chips, scratches, and edge surface rust. The final photo is angled to try to show a slight bend line from the edge through the top of the “R” and ending at the “E”. Apparently this sign was not meant to be displayed showing both sides at the same time because the print on one side is upside down on the opposite side. I guess the rest rooms there are always clean… But also “Approved” when displaying that side of the sign.
