THE SIGN IS HUGE. ALL THE LETTERS ARE 4 INCHES THICK. THE “E” IS ABOUT 18″ TALL X 14″ LONG. THE “XX” IS ABOUT 40″ AT THE LONGEST POINT, AND 31″ ACROSS THE FRONT. THE “O” IS ABOUT 19″ TALL X 18-1/2″ LONG. THE “N” IS ABOUT 18″ TALL X 16″ LONG. EACH LETTER HAS NEON LIGHTING INSIDE. THE WIRES WERE CUT WHEN THEY TOOK IT DOWN, SO I HAVE NO WAY TO TEST IT. ALL THE TUBING AND LETTERS LOOKS GOOD, EXCEPT THE “XX” HAS ONE SECTION OF TUBING BROKE OFF, AND ONE PIECE OF PLASTIC BROKE OFF THE LETTER. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE BOTH IN THE LAST 2 PICTURES. THERE ARE A FEW SCREWS MISSING, THAT HOLD THE LETTERS TOGETHER, AND SOME OF THE SEALING PIECES ARE MISSING, BUT BOTH OF THOSE ARE VERY EASY FIXES. OTHER THAN THE ISSUES MENTIONED, ALL THE OTHER WEAR IS VERY MINOR, AND NOT SERIOUS AT ALL. OVERALL, EVERYTHING APPEARS TO BE IN GOOD SOLID CONDITION. THE ONES I FOUND SIMILAR, DID NOT HAVE NEON TUBING. IF ANY OF THEM WORK, THAT WILL JUST BE A BONUS FOR YOU. AWESOME AND VERY RARE. BE SURE TO CHECK OUT ALL MY OTHER COOL AND UNUSUAL STUFF. In 1911, Standard Oil was broken up into 34 companies, some of which were named “Standard Oil” and had the rights to that brand in certain states, Standard Oil of New Jersey, or “Jersey Standard” had the rights in that state, plus in Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and the District of Columbia… By 1941, it had also acquired the rights in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Louisiana, In those states, it marketed its products under the brand “Esso”, the phonetic pronunciation of the letters “S” and “O”…. This old lighter is a neat piece of advertising from the late 1950’s….. In 1958 Esso introduced the “Happy Motoring” campaign along with the Esso “Oil Drop Man” who was paired with this slogan…… This neat, little lighter is marked “Rolex Japan” and it measures a mere 2″ by 1 3/4″…. This is a really cool piece for any collector, it has some scratches and it could use a good cleaning and polishing, also we are unable to test it because its missing the flint….
