Socony gas station between Norwich and New London on Route 32 in Connecticut, 1916. Following the break-up of Standard Oil. In 1911, the “Standard Oil Company of New York” (or’Socony’) was founded, along with 33 other successor companies. Was head of the company until 1923, when he was succeeded by Herbert L. Here is a great piece that you do not see often, as this is a very early version of the sign. I have decided to sell it along with a few other pieces I have collected. The face of the sign has the vertical wording of Tydol. Across the bottom of the sign there is the Lubricating Gasoline. In the lower right corner there is the smaller fine print manufacture wording. Around the front and back of the sign there is the wood frame, which shows some surface ware. Here is a nice sign to add to the collection, the sign has some minor paint ware, and scratches but as seen in the photos it is a great piece for display. In some of the photos there is some snow refection in the sign. This great piece measure 72 inches tall and 15 inches wide.
